Graduate students and applicants can apply for assistantships, fellowships, and other awards to help cover the cost of their education.
Graduate Assistantships
Apply by Dec. 1 to get priority consideration for a graduate assistantship.
Teaching and research assistantships are available to qualified MA and Ph.D. students.
Teaching assistantships (TAs) help facilitate and grade undergraduate-level communication courses. Duties vary according to the needs of the Department of Communication and may include:
- Conducting discussion sections of introductory communication courses.
- Supervised teaching of public speaking.
- Supervised teaching of upper-level undergraduate courses.
Research assistants (RAs) work with faculty on funded research projects. Duties may include helping with research and laboratory studies, supervising undergraduate researchers, data analysis, research writing, and more.

Full-time and part-time assistantships are available during the academic year. Summer teaching and research positions may also be available.
Full-time or half-time assistantship include:
